Detroit Cost Estimator Overview:
The Detroit Cost Estimator will provide cost quotes to customers. The Detroit cost estimator will work with a variety of departments in order to provide the most accurate quotes to customers. This position will require familiarity with injection molding, tooling, and pricing materials. The estimator will work closely with engineering department and will report to the Director of Cost Estimating.
Detroit Cost Estimator Job Opening
- Regularly interface with internal departments, such as manufacturing, tooling, accounting, purchasing, and sales, to acquire information needed to furnish the most accurate estimates to customers.
- Regularly communicate with customers and suppliers to attain information to provide the most accurate cost estimates.
- The Detroit Cost Estimator will receive blueprints , technical specifications, and other documents and develop estimates for the tooling and the price per piece for every product or component.
- Prepare tooling concepts for the prospective manufacturing process.
- The Detroit Cost Estimator will prepare piece cost estimates for components to be manufactured through injection molded.
- Explore and present secondary options to customers concerning costs.
- Engage in communication with customers to discuss technical issues, make suggestions, and gather input to ensure product satisfaction.
- Develop estimates on the cost impact for any product revisions.
- The Detroit Cost Estimator will identify areas for continuous improvements and create plans for improvements within the cost estimating process.
Cost Estimator (Detroit Area) Job Requirements:
- A four year degree in mechanical, industrial, or manufacturing engineering from an accredited institution is greatly preferred, but other degrees and non-degreed candidates will be considered.
- At least five years of job experience working with injection molding in a manufacturing environment.
- Good computer skills, especially familiar with Microsoft Excel.
- Great math skills.
- Familiar with reading blue prints and other technical documents.
- Six sigma or lean training would be beneficial for this position.
- Great communication skills, written and verbal.
- Comfortable working independent and with teams of cross-functional staff.
