Detroit Design Development Engineer Overview: 

The Design Development Engineer will create and improve plastics components for automotive OEM customers while working out of Detroit, Michigan. The Design Development Engineer will usually serve on a project staff, but will also work alongside CAD drafters evaluating and improving their designs. The Design Development Engineer will utilize CAD to develop different plastic engine components in Detroit, Michigan.

  • Develop designs of hoses, tubes, and other plastic injection molded parts for automotive engines out of the Detroit, Michigan plant.
  • For this job, evaluate, improve, and refine designs of current products to improve efficiency and minimize cost.
  • Evaluate the work of CAD drafters, providing coaching and mentoring as necessary for each job.

Design Development Engineer (Detroit Area) Job Requirements:
  • A bachelor’s degree in manufacturing engineering, mechanical engineering, or a closely related discipline.
  • Experience designing plastic injection molded parts for automotive applications, engine components preferred.
  • Exceptional design skills with autoCAD software.
  • Exceptional attention to detail.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Comfortable working with design colleagues and evaluating the work of peers and junior staff.
  • Comfortable serving as a mentor and advisor for junior personnel.
  • Great computer skills. Familiar with Microsoft office (Word, powerpoint, Excel, Outlook). Able to use design databases and design software. Mastercam/Unigraphics experience is a significant plus.
  • Previous automotive OEM design experience is a plus.
  • Lean Six Sigma training or certification is a significant plus.
  • Able to work as part of a team.

  • The Mechanical Field Engineer will work with customers to understand every aspect of their problems. Identify larger problems of a greater scope and document all pertinent details. Forward information to concerned parties.
Mechanical Field Engineer (Chicago Area) Job Requirements:
  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s of Science in Engineering (Mechanical) is required for this job.
  • A minimum of eight years of job experience or a higher level of education and training with a mix of job experience.
  • Car building or other railroad experience is preferable but is not a suitable substitute for an Engineering degree.
  • Demonstrated capacity to read, understand, and interpret journals of a technical or scientific nature, financial reports, legal documents, field manuals, standards and practices manuals, and regulations.
  • Demonstrated ability to field customer complaints or questions, regulatory inquiries, or other such queries. Able to prepare presentations or articles within a certain format.
  • Exceptional math and engineering skills. Demonstrated ability to perform stress and rain calculations, strength tests, and other analyses.
  • Good problem solving and reasoning skills.
  • Demonstrated capacity to interpret technical instructions to handle abstract and concrete variables.
  • Proficiency in Spanish or French is a plus for this job.

  • This role acts as a primary contact with suppliers to communicate downtime due to automated equipment and tools.
  • The Mechanical Engineer, in Seattle, Washington will work with outside vendors to ensure system integration does not disrupt production.
  • This job will also oversee line efficiencies to optimize safety and ergonomics within the facility.

Mechanical Engineer (Seattle Area) Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university is required for this job. Science and technology degrees are expected.
  • A Lean Six Sigma Green Belt at minimum is required for this role.
  • Prior experience (at least 3 years) with automated systems is necessary for this job.
  • This job requires a working knowledge and ability to read electrical and mechanical blueprints.
  • Strong analytical skills are vital for this job.
