Chicago Maintenance Manager Overview:
The Chicago Maintenance Manager regularly inspects, checks, and tests equipment and components to ensure proper functioning. The Maintenance Manager shall direct and supervise maintenance employees and other staff members as needed to complete job functions. The Maintenance Manager shall also serve as a scheduler and create a system for performing maintenance checks and preventative maintenance on the Chicago, Illinois fleet.

- Create and follow schedules for repair shop production, including expenses and capital work reports in effort to maximize repair capacity.
- The Chicago Maintenance Manager will check company goals and prepare production schedules to meet car flow company goals and ensure that the efforts of the shop staff are being properly channeled to minimize out of service time for each car.
- Utilize tracking software to monitor car routing within the fleet and find the best opportunities to perform repairs at other shops.
- The Chicago Maintenance Manager must direct, supervise, train, and coach repair shop employees.
- Create and update maintenance schedules in order to minimize down time for repairs.
- The Maintenance Manager will keep track of all repairs performed and maintenance actions taken in the company database.
- The Maintenance Manager will create schedules that consider mileage and load weights to forecast when maintenance will need to performed on each car.
- Keep a clean work space to minimize accidents or other safety issues.
- The Chicago Maintenance Manager must alter schedules to minimize lost time as directed.
- Keep a working knowledge of the railcar industry and the many component parts within and outside of a railcar.
Maintenance Manager (Chicago Area) Job Requirements:
- Excellent computer skills, thorough familiarity with Microsoft office is a must (Excel, Word, Outlook, Powerpoint, Access). Additionally, job experience with the business analytics software Tableau is highly preferred for this job.
- Some travel outside of Chicago, Illinois may be necessary for this job.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
- Able to communicate with personnel at multiple levels of a company (in house and with vendors).
- Excellent analytical, critical thinking, and problem solving skills. Able to understand metrics, complex numbers, and really delve into data.
- Comfortable with changes day to day and facing new problems consistently.
- A positive, can-do attitude. Self-starter.
