We are seeking an experienced and strategic senior category manager to lead a high-performing supply chain category management team. This position is responsible for developing and executing category strategies, supplier relationship management, and driving supply chain resiliency and cost optimization. As a senior leader within the supply chain organization, the role requires a mix of tactical execution and long-term strategic planning to ensure optimal performance and value delivery across all sourcing activities.
Position Responsibilities
Team Leadership and Strategy Development
- Lead a team of category managers and specialists in designing and executing category strategies focused on cost, quality, delivery, and innovation
- Define how technology standardization, supplier roles, and supply base simplification contribute to overall strategy
- Develop platforming strategies and determine localization goals for supply bases
Cross-functional Collaboration
- Partner with operations to align insourcing and outsourcing roadmaps for critical components
- Collaborate with engineering, quality, and product development to ensure category strategies align with overall business goals
- Lead internal communication efforts to ensure alignment and clarity on sourcing direction
Supplier Management
- Drive supplier performance through scorecards and regular feedback loops
- Develop strong relationships with key suppliers and lead strategic negotiations
- Support resolution of quality and delivery issues with suppliers
Performance Management and Continuous Improvement
- Set team goals and align resources to meet budgetary and performance targets
- Establish review processes to monitor team achievements and identify areas for improvement
- Encourage innovation and efficiency in reporting and sourcing processes
Change Management and Strategic Execution
- Lead change efforts around sourcing processes and ensure internal and external alignment
- Use complex data analysis to support fast, informed decision-making
- Create a high-performance team culture focused on accountability and continuous improvement
Prerequisites
- Minimum of 10 years in category management and procurement, covering both direct and indirect sourcing
- At least 5 years of team leadership with demonstrated improvement in team outcomes
- Strong negotiation skills and experience managing complex supplier relationships
- Proven ability to collaborate across functions and influence outcomes
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel and project management tools
- Willingness to travel as required
Certifications (Preferred, but Not Required)
- Certified Professional in Supply Management (CPSM)
- Certified Supply Chain Professional (CSCP)
- Six Sigma or Lean certification
- Project Management Professional (PMP)
