The Application Engineer will work with customers to create a product that meets their specifications and expectations while also working with the engineering team to deliver that product.

  • Operate always in line with safe working procedures and practices in both the office and the shop. Document and report unsafe conditions or actions to proper supervisor or safety representatives.
  • The Application Engineer will analyze and understand customer manufacturing specifications.
  • Partner with customers in and outside of Detroit and provide advisement through time studies, machine type suggestions, fluid requirements for fixtures/tooling/cutting, turnkey concepts, and time estimates for deliverables.
  • The Application Engineer will drive and assist projects as a customer advocate from sales order and proposals through product installation while keeping within schedule.
  • The Application Engineer will field customer concerns and notify customers of manufacturing issues.
  • Use active listening to understand the customer’s needs and requirements.
  • The Application Engineer will use creative methods and techniques, suggest alterations to processes, equipment used, or other practices as necessary.
  • Train company and customer personnel with different equipment.
  • The Application Engineer will keep a current and up to date knowledge of the innovations and trends of the machine tools industry.
  • Keep a current and up to date knowledge of productivity improvement programs.
  • The Application Engineer must perform customer visits to provide technical support on sold equipment or to identify products the company could provide the customer.
  • The Application Engineer will develop and deliver presentations on processes or products.
Application Engineer (Detroit Area) Job Requirements:
  • A four year degree in Manufacturing or Industrial Engineering or equivalent job experience.
  • Familiarity with cutting tool and machine tool design, the manufacturing process, applications, and sales.
  • Able to read intricate or complicated blueprints.
  • Familiarity with Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
  • Demonstrated history with advanced machining products.
  • Experience with machined goods for a multitude of industrial applications.
  • CAD/CAM experience is necessary, Espirit/Catia preferable.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication and leadership skills.
  • Excellent writing skills for reports, correspondence, and technical manuals.
  • Comfortable and effective in delivering presentations.
  • Demonstrated ability to apply algebra, geometry, and trigonometry.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office and its component programs.
  • Valid license and passport for travel outside of Detroit, Michigan.
  • Comfortable working on the road >50%.

Product Manager (Detroit Area) Job Requirements:
  • At least four-year degree for a university or college in engineering or business, Master’s preferred for this Detroit, Michigan job.
  • Ten years of product management job experience.
  • Technical knowledge and savvy in order to convey the benefits and applications of product lines.
  • Exception communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • A job history of providing solutions to industry challenges.

A manufacturer of plastic components for automotive applications is currently seeking a Design Development Engineer in the greater Detroit area to join their staff. This position will work on designing injection molded parts for different automotive-related applications. A great candidate for the Design Development Engineer job would have experience with injection molded parts and a great familiarity with CAD design software.

Detroit Design Development Engineer Overview: 

The Design Development Engineer will create and improve plastics components for automotive OEM customers while working out of Detroit, Michigan. The Design Development Engineer will usually serve on a project staff, but will also work alongside CAD drafters evaluating and improving their designs. The Design Development Engineer will utilize CAD to develop different plastic engine components in Detroit, Michigan.

Detroit Design Development Engineer Job Opening

  • Develop designs of hoses, tubes, and other plastic injection molded parts for automotive engines out of the Detroit, Michigan plant.
  • For this job, evaluate, improve, and refine designs of current products to improve efficiency and minimize cost.
  • Evaluate the work of CAD drafters, providing coaching and mentoring as necessary for each job.
  • Check other Design Development Engineer work as necessary to ensure maximized efficiency.
  • Analyze customer specifications and design products to meet job order specifications.
  • Collaborate with manufacturing and quality staff to evaluate designs for manufacturability.
  • Keep record of all designs and design changes from the Detroit, Michigan plant.
  • Partner with quality and manufacturing staff as necessary during Failure Mode Effect Analysis.
  • The Design Development Engineer  must collaborate with project design staff to improve designs and rectify issues with different job orders.
  • Design and redesign products as necessary to ensure customer satisfaction while working in Detroit, Michigan.
  • The Design Development Engineer must maintain knowledge of trends and innovations in plastic injection molded engine components through membership in trade organizations, following trade journals and periodicals, attending workshops or classes, and attending trade events.
Design Development Engineer (Detroit Area) Job Requirements:
  • A bachelor’s degree in manufacturing engineering, mechanical engineering, or a closely related discipline.
  • Experience designing plastic injection molded parts for automotive applications, engine components preferred.
  • Exceptional design skills with autoCAD software.
  • Exceptional attention to detail.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Comfortable working with design colleagues and evaluating the work of peers and junior staff.
  • Comfortable serving as a mentor and advisor for junior personnel.
  • Great computer skills. Familiar with Microsoft office (Word, powerpoint, Excel, Outlook). Able to use design databases and design software. Mastercam/Unigraphics experience is a significant plus.
  • Previous automotive OEM design experience is a plus.
  • Lean Six Sigma training or certification is a significant plus.
  • Able to work as part of a team.
