This position is responsible for developing complex designs in conformance with company standards and customer or marketing specifications. Candidates in this position must have strong design abilities coupled with an aptitude to achieve scheduling, budget and quality objectives.

Core Competencies Required: 

Skills: 

  • Must have strong mechanical design skills with an ability to read and layout mechanical blueprints.
  • Knowledge of machine systems is essential.
  • Must have strong knowledge of machine tooling and design.
  • Experience illustrating complex machine assemblies is a big plus.
  • Experience with Computer Aided Design systems is essential with understanding of 3-Dimensional Solid Modeling preferred; CATIA experience also is a plus.
  • Should have knowledge of GD&T per ANSI Y14.5.
  • Should have strong mathematical proficiency, not excluding algebra, geometry, trigonometry, and calculus/analytic geometry.
  • Basic understanding of FEA methods is a plus.

Education: 

  • A 4-year Engineering degree is required

  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s of Science in Engineering (Mechanical) is required for this job.
  • A minimum of eight years of job experience or a higher level of education and training with a mix of job experience.
  • Car building or other railroad experience is preferable but is not a suitable substitute for an Engineering degree.
  • Demonstrated capacity to read, understand, and interpret journals of a technical or scientific nature, financial reports, legal documents, field manuals, standards and practices manuals, and regulations.
  • Demonstrated ability to field customer complaints or questions, regulatory inquiries, or other such queries. Able to prepare presentations or articles within a certain format.

Chicago National Quality Director Overview:

The Chicago National Quality Director will ensure the operational excellence and strategic direction of the quality systems for the company in all its locations. The National Quality Director will work with customers to ensure the quality standards are above expectations. Additionally, the Chicago National Quality director will work with suppliers to ensure proper quality management systems are followed for all supplied materials.

Chicago National Quality Director Job Opening

  • The Chicago National Quality Director will oversee and review the quality systems and their success.
  • Establish best practices in line with providing a top of the line product to market.
  • Perform research on operating results, particularly financial and business performance metric.
  • The Chicago National Quality Director will plan and implement best practices to create manufacturing processes with the best capability available.
  • Ensure a high level of customer satisfaction through ensuring adherence to quality standards for raw materials, process, and finish good quality programs.
  • Ensure the products are durable to maintain and improve bard reputation.
  • The Chicago National Quality Director will research and utilize technology platforms to improve organizational and operational efficiency.
  • Guarantee the company and component organizations work to satisfy the voice of the customer.
  • Ensure quality and process improvement initiative are aligned with the strategic goals of the organization.
  • Plan and implement quality systems to meet and exceed the strategic goals of the organization.
National Quality Director (Chicago Area) Job Requirements:
  • A bachelors degree in engineering, operations, science, business, or a related field.
  • An advanced degree would be preferred for this position.
  • At least ten years of experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • At least five years overseeing a quality system or in a process improvement role.
  • At least five years experience managing a staff in multiple locations.
  • Exceptional leadership skills.
  • Great communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Excellent understanding of quality management systems and auditing procedures.
  • Lean/Six Sigma training, green or black belt certification preferred.
