We are seeking an experienced Sr. Materials Engineer to support the selection, development, evaluation, and optimization of materials used in manufacturing and engineering applications. This role requires strong technical knowledge of materials science, analytical problem-solving, and collaboration with engineering, manufacturing, quality, and supply chain teams.
Position Responsibilities
Materials Engineering
- Evaluate and select materials based on performance, application, cost, and manufacturability requirements.
- Develop and optimize material specifications and processes.
- Analyze material properties and performance to support engineering and production requirements.
- Investigate material-related issues and recommend appropriate solutions.
Testing & Analysis
- Conduct and coordinate material testing, characterization, and validation activities.
- Analyze test results and prepare technical reports and recommendations.
- Support root-cause investigations related to material or manufacturing defects.
- Evaluate material performance under different operating and environmental conditions.
Product & Process Development
- Support new product development and material qualification activities.
- Collaborate with engineering and manufacturing teams to improve materials and production processes.
- Assist with prototyping, validation, and production implementation.
- Identify opportunities to improve material performance, quality, and cost efficiency.
Quality & Compliance
- Develop and maintain material specifications and technical documentation.
- Support supplier qualification and material quality evaluations.
- Ensure materials meet applicable industry standards and customer requirements.
- Participate in corrective and preventive action initiatives.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Work closely with engineering, manufacturing, quality, procurement, and suppliers.
- Provide technical guidance on material selection and application.
- Communicate technical findings and recommendations to internal stakeholders.
Prerequisites
- Bachelor’s degree in Materials Science, Materials Engineering, Metallurgy, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
- Several years of experience in materials engineering or a related technical discipline.
- Strong understanding of material properties, processing, testing, and failure analysis.
- Experience with material selection, qualification, and performance evaluation.
- Ability to interpret technical specifications, drawings, and test data.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and technical communication skills.
- Experience working with manufacturing, quality, engineering, or supplier teams.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and relevant engineering or materials analysis tools.
Certifications (Preferred, but not Required)
- Professional Engineer (PE) license.
- Certified Materials & Resource Professional (CMRP).
- American Society for Materials (ASM) certifications or training.
- Six Sigma or Lean Six Sigma certification.
- Quality-related certifications such as ASQ CQE.
- Industry-specific materials testing or engineering certifications.
