We are seeking an experienced Environmental Engineer to support environmental compliance, permitting, and Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) initiatives within a manufacturing environment. The ideal candidate will be a calm, organized, and experienced professional who can manage multiple environmental projects, communicate effectively across teams, and maintain strong environmental management systems.
Position Responsibilities
Environmental Compliance & Management
- Support and maintain environmental and EHS management systems.
- Ensure environmental activities comply with applicable regulations, permits, and internal requirements.
- Monitor environmental performance and identify opportunities for continuous improvement.
- Maintain accurate environmental documentation, records, and reports.
- Lead by example in maintaining environmental compliance and organizational integrity.
Stormwater & Environmental Monitoring
- Coordinate and oversee stormwater sampling activities and environmental monitoring.
- Investigate environmental concerns and develop appropriate corrective actions.
- Support initiatives related to water quality and potential treatment requirements.
- Work with third-party environmental service providers as needed.
Permitting & Regulatory Support
- Manage and maintain environmental permits and related documentation.
- Evaluate permitting requirements as facility operations and construction activities change.
- Support regulatory submissions, inspections, audits, and compliance activities.
- Identify potential environmental risks and recommend appropriate solutions.
Continuous Improvement
- Apply Lean Thinking, 5-S, and Six Sigma principles to environmental processes where appropriate.
- Identify opportunities to improve environmental performance, efficiency, and compliance.
- Support projects that strengthen environmental and EHS programs.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Work closely with operations, maintenance, engineering, and other departments on environmental matters.
- Communicate environmental requirements and expectations effectively across the organization.
- Provide environmental and EHS support to leadership and team members.
- Serve as a resource for environmental matters when other team members or leaders are unavailable.
Project & Field Support
- Manage multiple environmental tasks and projects simultaneously while meeting deadlines.
- Support environmental requirements associated with facility construction and operational changes.
- Conduct field activities and inspections as necessary.
- Maintain flexibility to support special projects and changing operational needs.
Prerequisites
- Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science, or a related field.
- 3–5 years of experience performing environmental responsibilities in a manufacturing or consulting environment.
- Working knowledge of environmental compliance and EHS management systems.
- Basic knowledge of Lean Thinking, 5-S, and Six Sigma methodologies.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously.
- Ability to work effectively with individuals across different functions and levels of an organization.
- Ability to remain calm and effective under pressure.
- Willingness to adjust work schedules when environmental or operational needs require it.
- Ability to work extended periods on your feet, lift approximately 30 pounds repeatedly, and safely climb ladders when required.
Certifications (Preferred, but not Required)
- Professional environmental or EHS certification.
- Six Sigma certification.
- Lean certification or training.
- Additional environmental compliance or regulatory training.
What the Role Offers
- Annual salary range of $81,500–$126,500, with the expected budget generally around the $90,000 range, depending on qualifications and experience.
- Target bonus of 10%, with a maximum bonus opportunity of 20%.
- 15 days of PTO, prorated for the year.
- Monday–Friday schedule, generally 7:00 AM–4:00 PM, with flexibility for special projects as needed.
