We are seeking an experienced Controller to oversee financial operations, accounting activities, credit management, and financial reporting. The ideal candidate will bring strong accounting expertise, sound financial judgment, and preferably experience within the lumber and building materials or construction industry.
Position Responsibilities
Financial Management & Reporting
- Oversee day-to-day accounting and financial operations.
- Prepare and review financial statements, reports, and management analyses.
- Ensure financial information is accurate, timely, and compliant with applicable accounting standards.
- Monitor financial performance and provide insights to leadership.
Accounting Operations
- Manage general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, reconciliations, and month-end close activities.
- Establish and maintain effective accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls.
- Ensure accurate recording and classification of financial transactions.
- Coordinate financial audits and provide required documentation.
Credit Management
- Oversee customer credit evaluations and account management.
- Establish and monitor credit limits and payment terms.
- Review outstanding receivables and support collection activities.
- Identify credit risks and recommend appropriate actions to minimize exposure.
Budgeting & Financial Planning
- Support budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning activities.
- Analyze variances between actual results and budgets or forecasts.
- Provide recommendations to improve financial performance and cash flow.
- Assist leadership with financial decision-making.
Compliance & Controls
- Maintain compliance with applicable accounting, tax, and financial regulations.
- Strengthen internal controls and identify opportunities to improve financial processes.
- Ensure appropriate documentation and financial records are maintained.
Cross-Functional Support
- Partner with operations, sales, purchasing, and leadership teams on financial matters.
- Provide financial guidance related to customer accounts, purchasing, inventory, and business operations.
- Communicate financial information clearly to both financial and non-financial stakeholders.
Prerequisites
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field preferred.
- Progressive accounting and financial management experience.
- Previous Controller, Assistant Controller, Accounting Manager, or similar leadership experience.
- Strong knowledge of general accounting principles and financial reporting.
- Experience with accounts receivable and credit management.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency with accounting software and Microsoft Excel.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Experience in the lumber and building materials or construction industry is highly preferred.
- Ability to work on-site during a standard Monday through Friday schedule.
Certifications (Preferred, but not Required)
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA).
- Certified Management Accountant (CMA).
- Other relevant accounting or financial management certifications.
