We are seeking an experienced 2nd Shift Supervisor to lead production operations, support team performance, and maintain a safe, efficient, and high-quality manufacturing environment. The ideal candidate will bring a strong supervisory background along with process engineering experience and the ability to work effectively in a unionized manufacturing setting.
Position Responsibilities
Production Supervision
- Lead and supervise production employees during the 2nd shift.
- Monitor daily production activities to ensure safety, quality, delivery, and productivity goals are achieved.
- Assign work, manage priorities, and address production issues in a timely manner.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives and identify opportunities to improve efficiency and reduce downtime.
Process Engineering Support
- Apply process engineering knowledge to improve manufacturing processes, equipment utilization, and production performance.
- Analyze process issues and assist with root-cause analysis and corrective actions.
- Partner with engineering and operations teams to implement process improvements.
Team Leadership
- Coach, mentor, and develop production employees and team members.
- Address employee performance and operational concerns fairly and consistently.
- Promote a positive, accountable, and collaborative work environment.
- Support employee relations activities within established policies and procedures.
Cross-Shift Collaboration
- Provide coverage and support for other production shifts when needed.
- Maintain flexibility to work occasional 1st or 3rd shift coverage based on business requirements.
- Communicate important production, staffing, and maintenance information between shifts.
Safety and Quality
- Enforce safety procedures and manufacturing standards.
- Monitor production quality and address issues before they affect customers.
- Support compliance with company, regulatory, and manufacturing requirements.
Prerequisites
- Previous experience as a Production Supervisor, Shift Supervisor, or similar manufacturing leadership role.
- Experience supervising employees in a production or industrial environment.
- Process engineering or manufacturing engineering experience is highly desirable.
- Experience working in a unionized manufacturing environment is strongly preferred.
- Strong understanding of production processes, manufacturing operations, and continuous improvement.
- Ability to analyze production issues and implement practical solutions.
- Strong leadership, communication, and decision-making skills.
- Ability to work effectively across multiple shifts when coverage is required.
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
Certifications (Preferred, but not Required)
- Lean Manufacturing or Six Sigma certification.
- Process or manufacturing engineering credentials.
- Leadership or supervisory training.
- Additional manufacturing-related certifications are a plus.
