We are seeking an experienced Purchasing Manager to oversee company-wide procurement operations within a dynamic metals and manufacturing environment. This role will be responsible for sourcing raw materials, managing supplier relationships, analyzing market trends, and supporting purchasing strategies across a broad range of metal products and alloys. The ideal candidate will bring strong knowledge of aluminum, magnesium, scrap purchasing, and commodity markets, along with the ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced, high-volume purchasing environment.
Position Responsibilities
Procurement Strategy
- Develop and execute purchasing strategies that support operational and business objectives
- Manage procurement activities for raw materials, metals, alloys, and related commodities
- Monitor market conditions, pricing fluctuations, and supply trends to optimize purchasing decisions
- Support cost reduction initiatives while maintaining quality and supply continuity
Supplier & Vendor Management
- Build and maintain strong relationships with domestic and international suppliers
- Negotiate pricing, contracts, delivery schedules, and purchasing agreements
- Evaluate supplier performance to ensure quality, reliability, and compliance standards are met
- Identify and qualify new suppliers to support business growth and operational needs
Metals & Scrap Market Analysis
- Analyze aluminum, magnesium, and scrap metal markets to support strategic sourcing decisions
- Monitor commodity trends, industry pricing, and global supply chain developments
- Provide market insights and recommendations to leadership regarding purchasing risks and opportunities
- Support inventory and material planning activities through accurate forecasting and procurement coordination
Operational Coordination
- Collaborate with operations, production, logistics, and finance teams to align purchasing activities with business demands
- Ensure timely procurement and delivery of materials to support manufacturing schedules
- Assist with import/export coordination and transportation planning when needed
- Maintain accurate purchasing records, vendor documentation, and procurement reports
Continuous Improvement
- Identify process improvements that enhance purchasing efficiency and supplier performance
- Support initiatives that improve inventory management, cost control, and procurement visibility
- Contribute to long-term sourcing strategies and operational planning efforts
Prerequisites
- Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Business, Operations, Finance, or a related field preferred
- 5+ years of purchasing or procurement experience within metals, manufacturing, or industrial environments
- Strong understanding of aluminum, magnesium, scrap metals, and commodity purchasing markets
- Experience managing high-volume purchasing activity and supplier negotiations
- Knowledge of domestic sourcing practices; international purchasing or port logistics experience is a plus
- Strong analytical, negotiation, and problem-solving skills
- Excellent communication and relationship management abilities
- Proficiency with ERP systems, Microsoft Office, and procurement tools
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment with minimal supervision
Certifications (Preferred, but not Required)
- Certified Professional in Supply Management (CPSM)
- APICS / ASCM Certification
- Lean Six Sigma Certification
- Certified Purchasing Professional (CPP)
