We are seeking an experienced and highly skilled principal project engineer to lead complex process improvement and capital engineering projects in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. This role will play a critical part in advancing engineering excellence by focusing on lean manufacturing, process optimization, strategic automation, and continuous improvement. You will be responsible for managing all aspects of engineering projects—from concept through validation—ensuring alignment with safety, quality, and operational goals.
This position requires a strong technical foundation across mechanical, electrical, and chemical engineering principles, along with demonstrated leadership in project management and cross-functional collaboration. You’ll lead efforts to industrialize new processes, install and validate new equipment, and drive strategic initiatives to improve plant efficiency and safety. Your ability to work hands-on with equipment, mentor engineering teams, and maintain control of key deliverables will be essential to your success in this role.
Position Responsibilities
Strategic Engineering & Capital Project Management
- Lead cross-functional teams to scope, plan, execute, and validate capital projects
- Manage budgets, schedules, and risk for large-scale engineering initiatives
- Develop project charters, statements of work, milestone plans, and handoff documentation
Process Design & Industrialization
- Develop and implement optimized processes for new production and automation systems
- Ensure process capabilities meet or exceed quality, safety, and production specifications
- Identify and control critical process parameters through statistical analysis and Lean tools
Technical Leadership & Support
- Troubleshoot and validate mechanical, chemical, and electrical systems
- Work with PLCs, HMIs, hydraulic systems, extrusion equipment, batch mixing, and packaging systems
- Support safety and productivity engineering improvements across manufacturing sites
Prerequisites
- Bachelor of Science degree in an engineering discipline – required
- Master of Science in a related field – preferred
- 10+ years of experience in industrial manufacturing environments
- Plastics extrusion process and equipment knowledge – preferred
- 10 years of project planning and execution experience
- Strong working knowledge of AutoCAD, MS Office Suite, and MS Project – preferred
- Experience with SAP – preferred
Certifications (Preferred, but not Required)
- Project Management Professional (PMP)
- Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM)
- Agile Certified Professional (PMI-ACP)
- Professional Engineer (PE) license
