- The Detroit Tooling Engineer must lead the sourcing process for tooling in Detroit.
- Design, build, and maintain tooling. Establish processes for tooling design and implementation in the Detroit plant.
- Negotiate with vendors on pricing of materials for tooling.
- Complete product reviews related to tooling and manufacturing.
- Estimate the cost of products based on tooling costs.
- Deliver tooling quotes as requested.
- Perform analyses on moldflow and make suggestions for tooling from the results of the analysis.
- Oversee tool maintenance as necessary.
- Partner in the process of developing secondary fixtures and other tooling at the Detroit location.
- Review designs to ensure DFMA (Design for Manufacturing and Assembly) in order to ensure that the designs are feasible and cost effective.
- Create a vendor network using both domestic and international suppliers for tooling needs.
- The Tooling Engineer must analyze and improve sample parts from tool tryouts in Detroit.
- For the job, the Tooling Engineer must evaluate and improve tooling drawings.
- Evaluate product designs and make suggestions for improvements for the Detroit manufacturing process.
- Take part in cost reduction projects and improve manufacturing processes.
- Participate in studies to determine new product opportunities.
- Participate in tool tryouts and production start ups.
Tooling Engineer (Detroit Area) Job Requirements:
- A minimum of associate’s degree from an accredited institution or comparable experience in injection mold engineering or design is required.
- A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution would be preferable for this Detroit job.
- Three to five years of experience designing and modifying plastic injection molds on the job.
- A high level of proficiency with 3D CAD software such as Pro-E, Catia, Solidworks, or other such programs.
- The Tooling Engineer must have experience with Moldflow software for this job.
- Ability to travel domestically and internationally.
- Great communication skills in person, over the phone, and through writing.
- Demonstrated history of excellent negotiation and closing skills.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office.
