For this job, the Philadelphia Director of Purchasing oversees the purchasing activities, driving profits by negotiating favorable contracts, rebates, freight and payment terms, and adjustments to stock. The Director of Purchasing shall develop and implement strategy through purchasing initiatives and setting priorities for the department. For this job, the Director of Purchasing will partner with the management team in Philadelphia to maintain and exceed customer satisfaction for various job orders.

- The Director of Purchasing will ensure that price changes are known by management through distributing copies of new list prices sheets with changes noted.
- Ensure that changes in inventory are communicated to the sales team.
- The Director of Purchasing will develop and distribute monthly performance reports concerning such areas as: fill rate, inventory, stock outs. Ensure management receives all findings.
- Spread information regarding commodity tracking to concerned parties.
- The Director of Purchasing will develop and maintain purchasing reports.
- Ensure that pipe and tube inventory stays at proper levels.
- The Director of Purchasing will negotiate purchases to maximize the company’s benefits.
- Ensure that suppliers deliver upon services and remain accountable.
- Evaluate purchasing department practices, find inefficiencies, and correct those inefficiencies, documenting problems and solutions through out.
- The Director of Purchasing will develop vendor purchasing strategies in order to help the company meet the goals set out by the CEO.
- Oversee and lead the buyers, providing reinforcement and coaching in their daily activities.
- The Director of Purchasing will keep and oversee purchasing modules in the ERP system in order to maximize the effectiveness of the department.
- Collaborate with the CEO and Sales Managers on issues such as commodity pricing, inventory initiatives, and communication of needs in order to maintain understanding.
Director of Purchasing (Philadelphia Area) Job Requirements:
- A demonstrated history in purchasing for an industrial company. A few years of job experience directing a purchasing department is preferable for this job.
- A four year degree from an accredited college or university is required for this job.
- Five or more years of job experience in the distribution industry.
- Familiarity with documents associated with purchasing such as: purchase orders, invoices, instructions, and manuals.
- Ability to draft routine business correspondence and communicate effectively in person and over the phone.
- Basic math skills (add, subtract, multiple, divide, understand units of measurement).
- Familiarity with ERP systems, Microsoft office, and able to learn programs reasonably quickly.
