We are seeking an experienced IPG Automation Engineer to lead the development and implementation of electrical and controls systems across twenty-seven (27) manufacturing and five (5) mining facilities across the U.S. This role will play a critical part in driving automation strategy, supporting capital projects, and reducing process variation in Ceilings, Insulation, Plasterboard, Finishing, and Mining operations. The ideal candidate will bring strong technical expertise, a hands-on mindset, and the ability to travel up to 50%.
Position Responsibilities
- Develop, install, and commission control and automation systems including PLCs, HMI/SCADA, MES, and IIoT networks
- Execute retrofits involving AC/servo drives and modifications to PLCs and HMIs aligned with modernization initiatives
- Manage full project life cycle including scope, budgeting, planning, execution, and reporting
- Ensure adherence to compliance standards, project milestones, and quality objectives
- Provide on-site and remote support to troubleshoot complex automation and control systems
- Collaborate with Engineering and Production Managers on process adjustments and system improvements
- Implement and standardize process controls architecture across locations
- Support ongoing optimization and root cause analysis efforts
- Coordinate external contractors, controls engineers, and system vendors
- Lead or contribute to Focus Improvement teams targeting critical technical challenges
- Train and mentor plant staff in control systems, standards, and best practices
Prerequisites
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering (Electrical preferred)
- 5–7+ years of hands-on experience in automation/control engineering within continuous process manufacturing
- Allen Bradley PLC programming (PLC-5, SLC-500, ControlLogix) – required
- HMI development experience (Ignition, WinCC, iFix, Wonderware) – required
- Proficient in AutoCAD and control panel design (NFPA-79, UL508A)
- Familiarity with industrial networking (TCP/IP, ModbusTCP, IOLink, DH+, HART)
- Solid understanding of instrumentation: flowmeters, pressure/temperature sensors, encoders, etc.
NEC, Arc Flash (NFPA-70), and Combustion Safety (NFPA-86) experience preferred - MES and SQL database experience – preferred
- Strong troubleshooting, documentation, and communication skills
Certifications (Preferred, but Not Required)
- Project Management Professional (PMP) or equivalent
- NEC/NFPA technical certifications
- Safety or risk management certifications
