  • The Detroit Cost Engineer will utilize active based costing methods to determine piece cost models.
  • Deliver estimates for the cost of assemblies and components.
  • Observe manufacturing processes for products to develop cost models and estimates.
  • Serve as the costing technical expert.
  • Collaborate with personnel at global locations to improve costing across all locations.
  • The Detroit Cost Engineer will lead strategic initiatives as directed by the Director of Costing.
  • Review CAD designs of assemblies and understand the assembly process.
  • The Detroit Cost Engineer will obtain 3D models of assemblies, and transmit the models to suppliers for price quotes.
  • Send updated model data to plants whenever changes occur.
  • Deliver costing data to appropriate personnel internally and externally.
  • Interface with plant personnel to develop change costs for current programs.
  • The Detroit Cost Engineer will assist in the company strategic initiatives to lower cost and improve quality though costing.
  • Maintain current knowledge of the industry and trends.
  • Perform other duties as directed by the Director of Costing.
Cost Engineer (Detroit Area) Job Requirements:
  • A minimum education of a bachelor’s in engineering or equivalent experience.
  • At least five years of experience as a cost engineer.
  • Experience with the development of automotive interior components.
  • Understanding of automotive component manufacturing.
  • Experience working with stamp presses.
  • Knowledge of mig and spot welding, familiar with fixture cost and through put.
  • A good understanding of assembly processes.
  • Good communication skills, written and verbal.
  • A team-oriented mindset.
  • Good with computers, proficient with Microsoft office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook).
  • Good CAD and CD Modeling software skills.
