Chicago Structural Engineer Overview:
The Chicago Structural Engineer will primarily be working on projects developing infrastructure and related projects. The Structural Engineer will perform project management duties and lead other engineers to find the calculations necessary to create design plans with technical specifications. The Chicago Structural Engineer will lead a group engineers on the project and shall assign tasks to meet deadlines on schedule and under budget.
Chicago Structural Engineer Job Opening:
- The Chicago Structural Engineer will be the project manager for assigned infrastructure projects.
- Develop structural calculations, create design plans, and determine technical specifications for infrastructure projects.
- Manage technical work on the project, delegate tasks across engineers on staff.
- The Chicago Structural Engineer will ensure that calculations are correct and that designs are feasible and within regulations.
- Drive project success by leading regular meetings and checking that deliverables are met.
- Maintain a positive outlook and attitude with team members.
- The Chicago Structural Engineer will build and foster relationships with clients through providing excellent services and communication.
- Coach and mentor engineers on the project staff.
- Re-assign tasks if the project gets behind schedule to ensure completion.
- Maintain a current and up to date knowledge of regulations that relate to infrastructure.
- Meet regularly with management to discuss projects and provide updates.
Structural Engineer (Chicago Area) Job Requirements:
- A four year degree in civil engineering.
- A Masters of Civil Engineering would be preferable for this role.
- At least eight years of related design experience.
- Possession of a Structural Engineering license within the state of Illinois.
- Familiarity with regulations concerning infrastructure design.
- Experience working with federal and state agencies on designs.
- Familiarity working with companies involved in infrastructure and infrastructure construction.
- Previous experience with bridge design software.
- Microstation and MathCAD software familiarity is a plus.
- Able to manage several projects at once.
- Previous experience administering a budget.
- Able to coordinate and lead a cross functional team, also able to coordinate with outside parties to meet project objectives.
