We are seeking a highly skilled and strategic Mechanical Integrity and Reliability Engineer to lead and coordinate the plant’s mechanical integrity and reliability programs. This role ensures compliance with inspection and testing requirements, improves equipment reliability, and drives proactive maintenance strategies. The position focuses on both stationary and rotating equipment, supporting long-term operational excellence through technical expertise, data-driven decision-making, and leadership in root cause analysis and preventive maintenance.
Position Responsibilities
Mechanical Integrity
- Ensure all installations and repairs comply with corporate, federal, state, and local codes such as OSHA CFR 1910.119, API 510, API 570, and API 653.
- Direct and coordinate inspection activities on stationary equipment and piping, including routine, shutdown, and turnaround inspections.
- Plan, schedule, and verify inspection work in accordance with mechanical integrity schedules.
- Review and authenticate inspection reports, analyze findings, and recommend repair plans, additional testing, and re-inspection intervals.
- Maintain inspection databases, ensuring accuracy in scheduling and results documentation.
- Coordinate vendor surveillance and offsite inspections to ensure compliance with design and fabrication requirements.
- Participate in failure investigations and provide technical expertise on stationary equipment and piping issues.
Reliability
- Apply reliability tools (FMEA, RBI, RBM, RCM) to improve asset efficiency and reduce downtime.
- Maintain and update the critical equipment list and develop preventive and predictive maintenance strategies.
- Monitor equipment KPIs for early detection and resolution of reliability issues.
- Lead Root Cause Failure Analyses (RCFAs) and develop corrective action plans.
- Drive the “Bad Actor Program” to target and eliminate recurring equipment failures.
- Manage predictive maintenance programs, including vibration analysis, oil analysis, thermography, and steam trap inspections.
- Support capital projects with reliability engineering input for equipment specifications, spare parts, and vendor assessments.
- Evaluate and implement emerging technologies to enhance reliability performance.
Supervisory Responsibilities
- Oversee API Inspectors and Reliability Technicians.
- Lead team development, performance management, and training.
- Ensure direct reports maintain required certifications.
- Promote consistent communication, engagement, and adherence to company policies.
- Support onboarding and professional growth within the team.
Prerequisites
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or 5+ years of equivalent plant engineering experience.
- 5–10 years of experience in chemical, petrochemical, or related industries.
- Proven experience in pressure vessel design, inspection, and repair.
- Strong knowledge of American Petroleum Institute (API) codes, including API 510, 570, and 653.
- Proficiency in SAP and Microsoft Office applications.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to manage complex technical issues and collaborate across multiple departments.
- Willingness to support plant operations during off-hours or emergencies.
Certifications (Preferred, but not Required)
- API 510, API 570, or API 653 Certification
- Certified Reliability Engineer (CRE)
- Professional Engineer (PE) License
