We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Manufacturing Engineer to lead and support engineering projects, process improvements, and production optimization initiatives. This role plays a vital part in driving efficiency, safety, and quality within a dynamic manufacturing environment. The ideal candidate will have a strong technical background, experience in tooling and process development, and the ability to collaborate effectively across departments to solve complex production challenges.
Position Responsibilities
Engineering Project Management
- Manage or assist in engineering projects, including building layouts, tool and capital acquisition, and machine modification or design.
- Develop specifications and oversee the purchase of new tooling and manufacturing equipment.
- Coordinate with outside vendors and tool shops to ensure timely and cost-effective completion of tooling and equipment projects.
- Lead and implement product development or design changes to improve manufacturability and reduce costs.
Manufacturing Process Optimization
- Support daily production operations by resolving manufacturing and quality issues.
- Recommend and execute plant layout changes for continuous improvement.
- Lead problem-solving and cost-reduction initiatives involving technical and production staff.
- Maintain Bills of Materials (BOM), routings, and cost data.
- Develop and maintain process documentation, including operator instructions, Poka-yoke, and preventive maintenance guidelines.
- Drive scrap reduction and support lean and ergonomic activities.
Specialized Focus Areas
- Molding: Lead the molding department, oversee strategic planning, insourcing, tool maintenance, and establish preventive maintenance programs.
- Tooling / CNC: Supervise tooling activities, manage cost estimation, tooling materials, process selection, and support CNC operations.
- Welding: Provide leadership in MIG and TIG welding operations, including equipment selection, maintenance, and technician training.
Continuous Improvement & Quality Support
- Participate in APQP activities, including PFMEA, control plans, and flow chart development.
- Complete corrective action reports and support engineering rationalization projects.
- Participate in daily operations meetings and lead downtime reporting.
- Maintain a clean and organized workspace through 5S practices.
Prerequisites
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or equivalent experience (Master’s preferred).
- Minimum 5 years of experience in manufacturing engineering, metal removal, CNC programming, welding, metal forming, or assembly.
- Strong understanding of GD&T, work cells, single-piece flow, and JIT principles.
- Proficiency in problem-solving and data-driven decision-making.
- Excellent communication and leadership skills.
- Experience with DraftSight or SolidWorks CAD software preferred.
- Ability to take projects from design through tooling into full-scale production.
Certifications (Preferred, but not Required)
- Six Sigma Green or Black Belt Certification
- Lean Manufacturing Certification
- Project Management Professional (PMP)
