We are seeking an experienced Assistant General Manager – Rail Operations (AGMRO) to provide leadership and oversight of all railroad train operations. This role reports directly to the General Manager and carries the primary responsibility for managing and coordinating the performance of train crews—including locomotive engineers, conductors, and first-level managers such as DSLEs, trainmasters, and related staff (e.g., crew callers and crew cutting personnel). The position involves ensuring operational excellence and adherence to the Scope of Work (SOW) outlined in Sections 11 and 12 of the Contract. Limited on-call directives may be required for special train operations, planned and unplanned bussing, and other unique train movements, as defined in Sections 25 and 26 of the SOW.
Position Responsibilities
Operational Leadership
- Lead and direct train operations to ensure safety, efficiency, and regulatory compliance.
- Oversee locomotive engineers, conductors, and first-level management teams (DSLEs, trainmasters).
- Monitor day-to-day operations and implement corrective actions when necessary.
Crew and Staff Management
- Supervise and coordinate activities of crew callers, crew cutting staff, and related personnel.
- Develop and maintain crew schedules to optimize performance and minimize delays.
- Ensure proper training, coaching, and development of operational staff.
Compliance and Performance Oversight
- Ensure adherence to all applicable federal, state, and industry regulations.
- Review operational performance data and create strategies for continuous improvement.
- Collaborate with leadership to align operations with organizational goals and contract requirements.
Special Operations Management
- Support on-call directives related to special train services or emergency operations.
- Coordinate with third-party entities to provide operational support for capital projects or other initiatives.
Prerequisites
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in railroad operations or a related transportation field.
- Proven leadership experience in managing large, multi-disciplinary teams.
- Strong understanding of railroad safety standards, compliance regulations, and crew management.
- Excellent decision-making, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
Certifications (Preferred, but Not Required)
- FRA Engineer Certification.
- Safety and Compliance Training Certifications.
- Project Management Certification (PMP or equivalent).
