We are seeking a skilled and motivated Mechanical Design Engineer to join our client’s team. This role involves developing mechanical designs for mill processing and manufacturing equipment while collaborating closely with manufacturing engineering and operations to ensure manufacturability and customer satisfaction.
Position Responsibilities
Design Development
- Develop mechanical designs that meet customer specifications, adhering to company standards, procedures, and codes.
- Create detailed calculations, models, drawings, BOMs, and supporting documentation such as operation manuals and startup guides.
Manufacturing Support
- Work closely with the production team during the manufacturing process to address design challenges and ensure smooth operations.
- Collaborate with vendors and customers to build strong working relationships and ensure design feasibility and quality.
Continuous Improvement and Compliance
- Stay current with industry codes, standards, and progressive design practices.
- Continuously expand professional knowledge and improve skills to foster innovation and productivity.
Prerequisites
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering Technology.
- 3+ years of related design and manufacturing experience; experience with mechanical design, manufacturing processes (welding, cutting, milling, forming, turning), and material properties (steel, aluminum).
- Proficient in 3D CAD software, preferably SolidWorks.
- Knowledge of engineering standards such as GD&T and BOM creation.
- Strong troubleshooting and communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across teams.
- Experience with risk evaluation techniques like DFMEA/PFMEA.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Word, Excel).
Certifications (Preferred, but not Required)
- Experience with ERP or MRP systems
- FEA experience (preferably SolidWorks)
- Material handling knowledge
