We are seeking a licensed Structural Engineer (PE) to support the advancement of prefabricated building systems in the residential construction space. This role is ideal for a technically strong, creative problem solver who is passionate about improving the way homes are designed, built, and experienced. The position involves engineering design, prototyping, and innovation, contributing directly to the development of new products and construction technologies that improve sustainability, performance, and aesthetics.
Position Responsibilities
Structural Design & Evaluation
- Design and analyze structural systems for residential and light commercial buildings
- Improve upon prefabricated wall, roof, and floor panel systems to meet building performance goals
Prototype Development
- Lead the design and construction of prototypes and mock-ups to test new systems and products
- Use a hands-on, iterative approach to validate concepts with internal and external stakeholders
Innovation & Product Development
- Propose and develop new building technologies and contribute to product launches
- Prepare detailed construction documentation, shop drawings, and 3D BIM models
Technical Collaboration
- Work closely with builders, developers, architects, and manufacturing partners
- Review calculations and documentation to ensure engineering standards and building codes are met
Mentorship & Education
- Provide technical guidance to peers and non-technical teams
- Train staff and partners on code compliance and best practices in structural design
Documentation & Reporting
- Generate and review technical reports, drawings, patent applications, and presentations
- Support product management by identifying opportunities and developing customer-focused solutions
Prerequisites
- Bachelor’s Degree in Structural, Civil, Mechanical, Architectural Engineering, or related fields (Master’s preferred)
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in structural engineering and residential building design
- Deep understanding of wood-framed construction and applicable building codes (IRC, IBC)
- Experience with prefabricated construction (2D Panelized or 3D Modular) strongly preferred
- Proficiency in CAD/BIM software (Revit, SolidWorks, Rhino, etc.)
- Strong hands-on prototyping skills and familiarity with construction means and methods
- Ability to collaborate across disciplines, adapt to shifting requirements, and prioritize projects
Certifications (Preferred, but Not Required)
- Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) in at least one U.S. state (required)
- LEED, Passive House, or Zero Energy certification knowledge is a plus
- TPM or Six Sigma training beneficial
