We are seeking an experienced and innovative Senior Extrusion Engineer to lead extrusion process development and optimization in a high-performance manufacturing environment. This individual will be instrumental in driving product quality, increasing process efficiency, and supporting the scale-up of new materials and products. The role is ideal for a technical expert who thrives on hands-on problem solving and continuous improvement, with the ability to collaborate across departments and guide long-term process strategy.
Position Responsibilities
Process Optimization
- Lead efforts to enhance extrusion line performance, improve throughput, and reduce scrap
- Develop and implement process controls and best practices for consistent product quality
Technical Troubleshooting
- Analyze process deviations and equipment issues, providing quick and effective resolutions
- Conduct root cause analysis and implement corrective actions for recurring process problems
New Product Support
- Collaborate with R&D and engineering teams to launch new extrusion products
- Recommend tooling and material adjustments to support product development and performance goals
Equipment & Tooling Management
- Evaluate extrusion equipment capabilities and recommend upgrades or modifications
- Design and refine tooling to achieve desired product specifications and operational efficiency
Documentation & Training
- Develop and maintain standard operating procedures, process parameters, and technical documentation
- Train operators and maintenance staff on equipment setup, process controls, and troubleshooting
Continuous Improvement
- Drive lean initiatives and support Six Sigma projects aimed at reducing waste and cycle times
- Utilize data analysis to support decision-making and performance tracking
Prerequisites
- 7+ years of experience in extrusion engineering, preferably in plastic or polymer manufacturing
- In-depth understanding of thermoplastics, die design, cooling systems, and extrusion machinery
- Strong analytical and mechanical skills with a hands-on approach
- Demonstrated success in process optimization and quality improvement
- Proficient in technical documentation and cross-functional collaboration
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Polymer Science, or equivalent experience
Certifications (Preferred, but Not Required)
- Six Sigma Certification (Green or Black Belt)
- Lean Manufacturing Certification
- Certification in Extrusion Technology or similar technical training
