We are seeking a highly skilled and forward-thinking Senior Automation/MES Engineer to support the digital transformation and sustainability initiatives within manufacturing operations. This hybrid role plays a critical part in managing operational technology (OT), SCADA/MES systems, and automation infrastructure across multiple facilities. The ideal candidate will bring strong technical acumen, strategic problem-solving abilities, and excellent cross-functional collaboration skills to ensure system availability, security, and performance while supporting new implementations and ongoing support initiatives.
Position Responsibilities
PAC/PLC Control Systems
- Develop and implement automation and control system standards
- Lead initiatives for controls obsolescence and modernization
- Create and maintain system backup, recovery, and change control protocols
- Troubleshoot and program PAC/PLC systems, HMIs, VFDs, and servo systems
- Interpret and troubleshoot complex electrical schematics and industrial network diagrams
System Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA)/Manufacturing Execution System (MES)
- Lead configuration and support of platforms such as Wonderware System Platform, Rockwell SE, and Ignition
- Manage data interfaces with OPC Servers, SQL databases, and Historians
- Troubleshoot messaging and data flows between plant equipment and MES/SCADA platforms
- Support and maintain system security updates, backups, and recovery protocols
Operational Technology (OT)
- Troubleshoot Microsoft Server environments and remote desktop protocols
- Manage networking protocols (TCP/IP, Modbus, ControlNet, etc.) and industrial switches
- Implement and maintain secure OT infrastructure including firewall and access controls
- Coordinate Active Directory roles and permissions related to SCADA/MES access
Industrial Performance Improvement
- Maintain detailed documentation of MES/Automation systems and architectures
- Analyze downtime and performance metrics to drive system improvements
- Collaborate on capital and process improvement initiatives to enhance efficiency and reliability
- Align automation initiatives with key plant KPIs (safety, quality, cost, and service)
Competency Building
- Partner with plant teams to develop technical capabilities in MES and automation
- Coach and mentor engineers and technicians across departments
- Serve as a liaison between factory and enterprise teams to ensure alignment and communication
- Track progress on technical skill development and training initiatives
Prerequisites
- 7–10 years of experience in industrial automation and MES environments
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering Technology, or related field
- Deep expertise in Wonderware, Ignition, or Rockwell SE MES/SCADA platforms
- Proficiency in Rockwell PAC/PLC platforms and automation hardware
- Understanding of SAP integration with MES systems
- Familiarity with SQL databases and industrial network protocols
- Strong communication, project management, and change management skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools and AutoCAD
Certifications (Preferred, but not Required)
- Rockwell Automation or Ignition Certifications
- Microsoft Server or Networking Certifications
- Six Sigma, Lean Manufacturing, or related process improvement credentials
