Detroit Product Engineer Overview:
The Product Engineer will work in the Engineering department and report directly to the engineering manager at the Detroit, Michigan plant. The Detroit Product Engineer shall work independently and collaboratively with colleagues to develop and improve product designs. This Detroit, Michigan job will include a lot of hands on design and analysis.

- Create new product designs from conception to designing the product in a 3D modeling software for various jobs.
- The Product Engineer will create, analyze, and improve designs before they are reviewed.
- Showcase design concepts through creating prototype parts.
- Maintain documentation of design changes for various jobs.
- The Product Engineer will consider the cost of parts and the weights for products that will be shipped.
- Utilize FEA software to perform analyses of parts and improve designs.
- Check designs to ensure the product designed matches tooling specifications.
- The Product Engineer will analyze and troubleshoot parts created from tool tryouts.
- Improve designs through consistent analysis in order to make the product more cost effective and efficient.
- Collaborate with concerned parties to create special tooling, fixtures, and processes for particular products.
- The Product Engineer will develop QIS templates and create product images for QC as necessary.
- Develop pre-source RFQ documentation.
- Check designs and suggest improvements.
- The Product Engineer will utilize MoldFlow software to analyze parts.
- Identify defective products and correct errors in design.
- The Product Engineer will collaborate with colleagues to create plans for design verification.
- The Product Engineer will collaborate to create procedures for design failure modes and effects analysis
Product Engineer (Detroit Area) Job Requirements:
- A minimum of four year degree in the discipline of mechanical or plastics engineer or significant hands on engineering experience and training.
- At least one to three years of experience working in product design in plastics, preferably consumer goods.
- In depth and working knowledge of the process of designing plastic parts, the process of manufacturing plastic parts, and an understanding of what tools are needed for each job.
- Exceptional skills in 3d modeling, previous use of SolidWorks is preferable for this job.
- Demonstrated ability to complete every aspect of an FEA analysis.
- Able to use Microsoft Excel, Word, and Powerpoint.
- Able to interpret results from packaging tests such as drop tests, static load tests, and vibration tests.
- Comfortable interfacing with other departments such as Design, Quality, Product Development, Purchasing, Program Management, and the Executive team.
