We are seeking an experienced Materials Manager to lead production planning, material coordination, inventory management, and scheduling activities. This role will ensure material availability and efficient production flow while supporting inventory objectives, customer delivery commitments, and overall operational performance.
Position Responsibilities
Production Planning & Scheduling
- Develop and implement production plans that align with customer requirements, inventory objectives, production capacity, and delivery commitments.
- Analyze production requirements and optimize MRP planning parameters to align planned orders with future demand.
- Develop efficient production schedules for multiple product lines while maximizing resource utilization and inventory turnover.
- Adjust production schedules to accommodate changes in customer orders, priorities, cancellations, and delivery requirements.
- Firm and release planned orders to support timely production execution.
Material Planning & Coordination
- Work closely with purchasing and supply chain teams to manage material requirements, shortages, expedited orders, and deferred purchase orders.
- Monitor material availability and resolve conflicts between supply requirements and production plans.
- Coordinate with internal teams and suppliers to address delivery schedule misalignments and material-related risks.
- Support material planning across the product lifecycle, including procurement, fabrication, assembly, testing, and shipment.
MRP & ERP Management
- Utilize MRP and ERP systems to monitor planned and released orders and respond to rescheduling requirements.
- Review MRP recommendations and reschedule messages to ensure production plans remain aligned with changing demand.
- Maintain accurate planning data, routings, bills of materials, and material requirements within integrated business systems.
Inventory & WIP Management
- Manage inventory levels through cycle counts, inventory control practices, and ongoing monitoring.
- Balance inventory availability with turnover, lead times, obsolescence risks, and production requirements.
- Review work-in-progress orders to support timely completion and customer delivery.
- Coordinate the timely disposition of materials requiring review or additional action.
Forecasting & Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Partner with Operations, Sales, Procurement, and Supply Chain to develop short- and long-range material and production forecasts.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify risks, prioritize activities, and resolve planning challenges.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives that strengthen planning accuracy, inventory performance, and operational efficiency.
Prerequisites
- Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Operations Management, Business Administration, or a related field.
- At least 5 years of experience in production planning, materials management, supply chain, or a related manufacturing environment.
- Experience managing end-to-end product planning, including procurement, fabrication, assembly, testing, and shipment.
- Strong knowledge of bills of materials, production scheduling, inventory control, and material requirements planning.
- Experience working with a fully integrated ERP/MRP system.
- Strong analytical, critical thinking, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Demonstrated leadership abilities and the ability to collaborate effectively across departments.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and respond effectively to changing business and customer requirements.
Certifications (Preferred, but not Required)
- APICS/ASCM certification, such as CPIM or CSCP.
- CPSM or other relevant supply chain or procurement certification.
- Lean, Six Sigma, or other continuous improvement certification.
