We are seeking an experienced Automation Engineer to support the design, implementation, and optimization of automated manufacturing systems in a fast-paced production environment. This role will focus on improving operational efficiency, troubleshooting automation systems, managing capital projects, and supporting continuous improvement initiatives across the facility. The ideal candidate is technically strong, calm under pressure, and capable of collaborating effectively with both production and engineering teams.
Position Responsibilities
Automation Systems Development
- Design, program, and commission PLC, HMI, and SCADA systems for manufacturing operations
- Support automation upgrades, retrofit projects, and control system improvements
- Integrate automation systems with data collection and monitoring platforms
Process Optimization & Troubleshooting
- Analyze manufacturing processes to improve uptime, reliability, and product quality
- Troubleshoot electrical, mechanical, and automation-related issues
- Perform root cause analysis and implement corrective actions
Project Management
- Manage automation and controls projects from planning through implementation
- Coordinate project timelines, vendors, budgets, and technical requirements
- Support CAPEX and safety-related improvement initiatives
Collaboration & Technical Support
- Work closely with production, maintenance, and engineering teams to resolve equipment issues
- Provide technical guidance and support during equipment upgrades and process changes
- Assist technicians and operators with automation troubleshooting and system performance
Compliance & Safety
- Ensure automation systems comply with applicable safety and regulatory standards
- Maintain awareness of EH&S requirements and support safe work practices
- Provide emergency support during critical equipment downtime situations when needed
Prerequisites
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Automation, or related technical field
- Experience with PLC programming platforms such as Studio 5000, Rockwell, or similar systems
- Strong troubleshooting experience involving automation, controls, and manufacturing equipment
- Knowledge of SCADA, HMI, and industrial communication systems
- Experience managing engineering or automation-related projects
- Familiarity with Python, SQL, or manufacturing data integration systems preferred
- Strong communication and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work effectively in both office and production floor environments
Certifications (Preferred, but not Required)
- Certified Automation Professional (CAP)
- PMP or other project management certification
- OSHA Safety Certification
- Robotics or industrial controls certifications
