We are seeking a highly skilled Controls Manager to lead and oversee all automation, instrumentation, and control system activities within a client’s facility. This role is responsible for ensuring that all systems are designed, implemented, and maintained to achieve operational efficiency, reliability, and safety. The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership capabilities, technical expertise in control systems, and the ability to collaborate across departments to support continuous improvement initiatives.
Position Responsibilities
Automation and Controls Oversight
- Manage the design, programming, and maintenance of plant control systems, including PLCs, HMIs, SCADA, and instrumentation.
- Ensure that all automation systems are optimized for performance, reliability, and scalability.
- Lead troubleshooting and root cause analysis for control-related issues to minimize downtime.
- Develop and enforce best practices for system documentation, version control, and network security.
Project Management
- Plan and execute automation and control system upgrades, expansions, and new installations.
- Collaborate with engineering, maintenance, and production teams to align project timelines with operational goals.
- Manage budgets, vendor relationships, and technical resources to ensure successful project delivery.
- Identify opportunities for process optimization and cost reduction through automation improvements.
Team Leadership and Development
- Supervise and mentor a team of controls engineers, technicians, and contractors.
- Provide training and technical guidance to enhance team skills and performance.
- Promote a culture of safety, accountability, and innovation within the controls department.
Prerequisites
- Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Automation, or a related technical field.
- 7–10 years of experience in industrial automation or controls engineering, including supervisory or managerial roles.
- Strong knowledge of PLC programming (Allen-Bradley, Siemens, or similar) and HMI/SCADA systems.
- Experience with control system design, commissioning, and troubleshooting.
- Familiarity with industrial communication protocols and network architecture.
- Excellent problem-solving, communication, and leadership skills.
Certifications (Preferred, but not Required)
- Professional Engineer (PE) License.
- Certified Automation Professional (CAP).
- Six Sigma or Lean Manufacturing certification.
- OSHA Safety Certification.
