We are seeking a highly experienced and strategic Senior Benefits Manager to oversee and manage all employee and retiree benefits programs. This position is responsible for designing and administering comprehensive benefit plans that align with organizational goals, ensure compliance with applicable laws, and support the well-being of employees and retirees. The successful candidate will serve as a key liaison with third-party administrators, lead benefit-related audits and renewals, and ensure ongoing communication and education around all benefit offerings.
Position Responsibilities
Benefit Program Management
- Develop and administer employee benefits packages, including health and retirement plans
- Initiate, review, evaluate, and recommend annual insurance policies and programs
- Ensure compliance with applicable federal and state regulations, including ERISA, ACA, COBRA, and HIPAA
Third-Party Administration Oversight
- Oversee relationships with third-party administrators for pension, COBRA, and FSA programs
- Ensure accurate and timely processing of enrollments, changes, and claims
- Monitor the performance and compliance of all external benefit service providers
Communication and Employee Support
- Design and execute employee and retiree communications regarding benefits
- Provide guidance during onboarding and respond to benefits-related inquiries
- Troubleshoot benefit issues, resolve disputes, and liaise with insurance carriers
Retirement Program Administration
- Serve as the primary contact for defined benefit and defined contribution plans
- Initiate pension benefit calculations and manage ongoing retiree communications
- Coordinate annual processes including 401(k) and pension discrimination testing, plan valuations, and benefit statements
Compliance and Reporting
- Manage government reporting requirements including Form 5500, ACA reporting, and Medicare Part D certifications
- Maintain accurate HRIS benefits data and ensure compliance with IRS and DOL requirements
- Review and update plan documents and summary plan descriptions
Corporate Governance and Committees
- Initiate and manage agendas for Investment and Benefits Committee meetings
- Present benefits strategies and data to Executive Management and the Board of Directors
- Lead and participate in benefit-related audits and internal evaluations
Prerequisites
- Bachelor’s degree in business or related field (preferred)
- 7+ years of experience in a senior-level Benefits Management role
- In-depth knowledge of ERISA-regulated plans and benefit compliance regulations
- Strong organizational, analytical, and communication skills
- Proficiency in MS Office and HRIS systems
- Ability to handle confidential information with integrity
Certifications (Preferred, but not Required)
- Certified Employee Benefit Specialist (CEBS)
- Professional in Human Resources (PHR) or Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR)
