Our executive search firm is currently recruiting for a highly skilled PCB Layout Designer on behalf of a leading technology organization. The PCB Layout Designer will play a crucial role in all aspects of Printed Circuit Design, including the creation and management of library components, collaboration with Electrical and Mechanical Engineering teams, and the transformation of schematics and board outlines into multi-layer printed circuit board designs. This role also involves providing quote and fabrication files to Contract Manufacturers (CMs) and circuit board fabricators. Position Responsibilities:
- Create and maintain new components within the organization’s PCB library, including schematic symbols, pads, solder masks, and 3D geometry.
- Possess a basic understanding of electronic symbols and the fundamental purpose and functions of circuits.
- Implement strategic layouts with careful planning for power and ground, ESD, and EMC considerations.
- Collaborate closely with the Mechanical Engineering Team to establish board outlines and keep-outs, ensuring seamless integration.
- Collaborate with the Electrical Engineering Team to import schematics, establish part placement, define layer strategies, and align with the design goals and requirements.
- Work in collaboration with the factory to ensure that the design is manufacturable and testable.
- Implement layouts in accordance with PCB tool design rules, OTTO processes, lessons learned, and a clear understanding of cost trade-offs and board fabrication constraints.
- Maintain a keen awareness of quality standards, cost considerations, and project schedules.
- Prepare fabrication/quote files, prints, and Bills of Material for submission to printed circuit board fabrication firms, contract manufacturers, and solder stencil fabricators.
- Work on new designs as well as maintain and update existing designs, including occasional tasks such as importing or converting PCBs from older CAD systems to Altium.
- Evaluate new versions/updates of the Altium PCB Layout tool, ensuring backward compatibility and platform stability before deployment.
- Act as the Altium system administrator for the department, including tasks such as installing Altium on new PCs and ensuring all users are on the same version. Contact Altium for any anomalies.
- Contribute to maintaining and improving the organization’s Printed Circuit Board Layout process to ensure high-quality results.
- Assist with any other related duties as required or assigned by the organization.
Qualifications and Experience:
The ideal candidate for this role should possess the following qualifications and skills:
- A minimum of 10 to 15 years of experience in Printed Circuit Board (PCB) layout is required.
- A Technical Associates Degree or higher educational qualification is preferred.
- Possession of Circuit Layout CAD training certificates or credentials is desirable.
- At least 5 years of experience with Altium is a prerequisite.
- A self-assertive individual who takes the initiative to quickly acquire product knowledge and apply it with minimal direction.
